Matt Mercer is a North Carolina native who grew up in Rockingham County. He is a graduate of UNC Charlotte. For nearly a decade, Mercer worked across North Carolina as one of the state’s most well-regarded political operatives. For four years, he served as North State Journal’s editor in chief, winning multiple N.C. Press Association awards. He joined the NCGOP in March 2024.
